Biography

Latham Horn is an Australian Flutist based in Passau, Germany.

Since early 2017 Latham is the Flutist of the Bavarian chamber orchestra Kurorchester Bad Füssing.

He won first prizes at:

  • the International Young Artist Competition of the Australian Flute Festival
  • 35th James Carson Flute Competition
  • 4MBS Radio Chamber Music Competition
  • the Grand Prize Virtuoso Bruxelles International Chamber Music Competition Belgium
  • 24th Australian Youth Classical Music Competition
  • Australian Flute Festival International Chamber Music Competition

Latham has received awards from the Ian Potter Cultural Fund, the PPCA Performer’s Trust and the Australian Flute Society and in 2014 was selected for Austrian Radio ORF Ö1 Talentbörse.

A highlight of Latham’s career has been his work with chamber orchestras and ensembles, having performed with:

  • Bayreuth Junge Künstler Festival

As soloist, he has performed with the International Bach Academy Stuttgart, Switzerland Woodwind Festival, the Queensland Youth and Conservatorium Symphony Orchestras and regularly with the Kurorchester Bad Füssing. He has performed with symphony orchestras including the Brucknerorchester Linz, Mecklenburg Staatskapelle Schwerin, Sydney Symphony and Queensland Symphony Orchestra.

Latham studied at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music with Gerhard Mallon, private mentorship with Sally Walker in Newcastle, and at the Anton Bruckner Uniververität Linz with Prof. Johanna Dömötör with additional studies with Anneliese Fuchsluger, Ildiko Deak and Christian Landsmann. Further impulses came from masterclasses and lessons with leading international flutists including Emily Beynon, Herman van Kogelenberg, Martin Belic, Pirmin Grehl, Michael Cox, Sabine Poye-Morel, Michael Faust, Dieter Flury, Aldo Baerten and Sakura Kindynis.
