Biography

Nerses Ohanyan, born in 1989 in Yerevan, began his first steps on the flute at the age of 6 at the music school "Awet Gabrielyan' in Yerevan. At age 13 years, he moved to the music high school by Tchaikovsky. In 2005 he began his study with Prof. Evgenie Noninyan at the State Conservatory in Yerevan by Comitas and graduated with honors.

His postgraduate study took him to Germany in 2008. He completed this additional studies at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, in the class of prof. Gunhild Ott and in the class of deputy prof. Felix Reimann. Beeing as a music student, he participated in numerous international music festivals, such as the "Golden Ferry" festival in Sochi and the festival "Moscow welcomes friends Welcome".

In 2005 he won the 1st prize in the 1st "A. Spendiaryan" Republican competition in Yerevan and the following year the gold medal at the IVth International Dolphic Games in Astana, in Kazakhstan.
Nerses Ohanyan was also a fellow of the charity fund "New Names" , "Vladimir Spiwakow", GFFF and "Live Music Now Rhein-Ruhr".
He gained his first experience as an orchestral musician from 2005 in the Armenian National Youth Orchestra as a solo flutist, and since 2008 up to 2009 in the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra as an intern. Since 2015 up to 2016 he completed a project internship with the Dortmund Philharmonic.

Masterclasses with Peter-Lukas Graf, Gaby Pas-Van Riet, Paul Edmund Davies, Marina Piccinini, and Stephanie Winker gave the flutist further inspiration for his musical development.
For several years, Nerses Ohanyan has been working on beatboxing on the flute. With this new technique he plays numerous solo concerts. He performed the european first-performance of work of american composer Randall Woolf "Native Tongues" written for beatboxflute and orchestra with Westphalian New Philharmonic Orchestra in March of 2017. Since late 2016 he also plays concerts with his band "TrioNerses".
